How To Actually Get “Toned”

The Problem

Everybody and their mother just wants to get “toned”. Often people will say they don’t want to get bulky, they might not even want to lose much weight, they simply want to tone. Luckily, the solution is everywhere. There are hundreds of people out there willing to sell you that toned look. There are thousands of workout videos offering you this immediate outcome, an abundance of diet plans and detox pills and many classes using ‘TONED’ as the large header on their advertisements. So, why hasn’t anything worked?

The Effects

People often blame themselves rather than the money hungry liars. It’s easy to fall into the trap, especially when those selling you these things look so fantastic, they must know what they’re talking about. We begin to put it down to genetics, metabolism or just plain luck. Some people are blessed and some people aren’t the truth is, getting “toned” is not really plausible or at least, not as simple as it’s often portrayed. We all have a vision of a toned body in our heads but what exactly does our body need to achieve in order to create that look? Well despite not wanting to get bulky nor not really wanting to lose weight, you need to build muscle and be in a calorie deficit. To look toned, a person needs to essentially replace body fat with lean muscle.

The Solution

Calorie deficit combined with a high protein diet and consistent strength training, is the only solution. It is the only proven way to lose the bingo wings, stop the thighs from jiggling and achieve that flat stomach most of us desperately sought after. It is also, unfortunately, impossible to target one area for toning. You can focus on muscle building in a certain area which will certainly help give the toned illusion but you can not choose where your body will decide to burn fat. You may get lucky but if not, be prepared to wait and enjoy watching all the other areas tighten up on the way. I know that may be disappointing to hear, especially for the ladies out there looking to get rid of that pesky muffin top. No need to worry though because timing is everything for that one. If you could quickly pull out the camera first thing in the morning before eating, drinking or breathing, then you may be able to capture a moment of having a perfectly flat stomach. I’m guilty of this which is why I’m adamantly warning, don’t waste your time, energy and emotions trying to get rid of something, we are built to have. EVERYONE has it, whether or not the camera shows it. It is important for housing baby’s and keeping us safe. Learn to love and embrace it for it’s beauty and necessity instead.

The Effects

I did not write this to crush anyone’s hopes and actually intended it to be the answer to your prayers. This may seem like a lot more than you were hoping to take on. It will definitely take much longer than most “influencer” programs had previously promised you but if you implement the strategy in small sustainable ways over time, you will get there. Not only will you eventually achieve a fitter and stronger body but maintenance will be more realistic too.

Tips and Advice

-Anything that offers you quick results (10 days or so) is a lie -You will notice changes early on, maybe not where you were hoping but take these as motivation to continue on until you get the change you wanted. -If it was easy, we would all look toned. -Unfortunately, you will still have hormonal bloat, nothing can prevent that but again, it okay to be human.
